Alan Squires

Kia ora. I am a fine art landscape and commercial photographer based in the heart of Whangārei, Northland. Working from my central studio, my imagery is deeply inspired by our region’s raw elements—its coastal magnificence, volcanic heritage, and weather-beaten beauty.
As a self-taught photographer, my eye has been shaped by iconic New Zealand imagery and a broad love of art. However, my greatest and most enduring influence remains the Northland landscape itself. I strive to capture the quiet, powerful moods of the land and sea, to give mana to the viewer, translating them into large-scale works that bring the outside world indoors.
My large-scale art pieces are regularly on display at the Hihiaua Cultural Centre, and I frequently exhibit with the fantastic local contemporary photography collective, The Shutter Room.
You are always welcome to visit my central Whangārei studio to view current works in progress. Because it's a busy, functional workspace, please book ahead so we can set aside time for a proper chat and a coffee.
